Robin Thicke and Paula Patton move forward toward divorce

Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" has become a very popular hit on today's music charts. Thicke's wife has also made a name for herself as an actress by starring in the movie, "Baggage Claim." Although these two were high school sweethearts, it appears that the couple is facing problems.

Thicke and Patton were married in 2005 and recently announced their separation. The couple has one son who is three years old. In making a statement about their separation, the couple relayed that the decision was mutual and they want to remain best friends.

When a couple in the limelight moves forward with the divorce process, many complications and difficulties arise. These couples often have had successful careers and made a life for themselves within the marriage. Divorce forces these couples to sit down and divide all of those assets that have been added to the marriage during their married lives.

Couples going through the process of a high asset divorce may handle the situation differently from one another. Some couples are able to come to an agreement outside of the courtroom with the help of their attorneys. Others have to take their concerns to a judge who will then decide how their assets should be divided.

In a state like Massachusetts, divorcing couples are subject to equitable distribution. This means that a judge will consider all of the property and assets that are shared between the couple and divide those assets in a way that is "fair and just." When a judge does this, they do not have to follow a 50/50 mindset.

Individuals facing a high asset divorce have many things to consider throughout the divorce process. Experienced legal professionals are able to assist these individuals through the ups and downs and help them protect their legal rights.
