The benefits of prenuptial agreements

Alimony is not extinct in Massachusetts

Many may think that alimony is a thing of the past, however, this is simply not true. Alimony is a payment from one spouse to help support an ex-spouse under particular circumstances. Today, the state of Massachusetts still recognizes alimony and awards these payments in many different situations.

How is child support determined?

As couples with children go through the process of separating, many have questions regarding the amount of child support that they will either receive or have to pay. Although determining child support is based on many concrete factors, such as the number of children, the amount of support can vary.

Protecting assets in a divorce

Inheritances and gifts are not considered marital property under Massachusetts law. Money or assets received by inheritance or gift by one spouse are considered separate property in Massachusetts and are typically protected from a divorcing spouse. This protection is not automatic, however, and individuals must act cautiously in order to protect assets that are rightfully theirs.
